I hate the interface when reading music from a USB stick - the disc seems to be easier to navigate

has anyone with a 2010-2013 Tech or Advance tried burning a DVD full of MP3 music and sticking it in the bottom drive? Curious if the DVD drive can read MP3 files or only movies ...

my new PC doesn't have a CD/DVD drive so I can't try it out

if it works I'll burn one at work

I have a 2010 Tech. I have no problems burning DVDs full of MP3s. Each DVD will hold approx 4.5 Gig of MP3s, actually about 4.3. No skipping, no static, no anything but a ton of music. I drove from the Dirty South to the Motor City on just 1 DVD. I have burned approx 9 to 10. Close to 40 Gig of music, which is about 1/2 of my collection. The remaining bits and pieces of music...I just throw it on a Mem stick.

So yes, you can play DVDs with MP3s.

Oh, I don't have the Ent package...just the Tech, so I am using the standard Head Unit, not the DVD unit.

Noticed your post after the write up...

Anyways, more info.

When burning the disc, you can create folders(name them too) to act as playlists.
Drag and drop your MP3's into the folders you want...really cool.
Because I already have Playlists from iTunes, it was easy to drag and drop.

Awesome navigation using the folder option on the deck and Nav screen to select music and folders(playlists for me).

I use Toast Titanium 11 Software on a Mac...
Not sure what PC you have, but with Macbook Airs or Mac Mini's, we don't have an optical Cd drive too, but we can wirelessly use one from a Mac or PC thru Wifi, once setup, or USB.

2010+ deck, just below the VOL. knob, it states DVD Audio/Video.
The thing is i don't see MP3/WMA writing anywhere, but poster above states that it works.

I have the 2008 with RES, and it states DVD Audio for Cd player(below preset 2 button), DVD Video below for DVD player. It also states MP3/WMA on the DVD player.
I burned a DVD MP3 disc and a CD MP3 disc in my top 6 CD player to play audio.

One word of caution....You don't want to put 4.6 GB of single songs on DVD....why? You will never find them when looking for a particular song. Rather, create folders of different music. It can be by Artist, Song Type, Year, you name it. Then you can go directly to a folder and the songs are listed on the Nav screen.

With that much music....Organize is key.

On the other hand...you can treat it Like a box of Chocolates....You never know what you might get (hear that is).

Good luck...you will enjoy the DVD MP3s......
